The Central Board of Secondary Education announced major changes in it’s merit evaluation system after walking down the line in the stereotype educational framework for too long.
In a recent press release, the board confirmed about implementing competency based education for evaluating the merit of the students from the 2021-22 session. One such appreciable move towards Competency Based Education or CBE looks forward to assessing the applied concepts of those appearing in Class X and XII exams. The CBE assessment program will be implemented for Class IX and XI’s final exams as well.
CBSE decided that students appearing for the Classes IX and X will be facing 30% of Competency Based Questions, mostly based on real-life or unfamiliar scenarios. Whereas, 20% of the CBE assessment format will be followed for those appearing in Classes IX and X respectively.

However, there won’t be any changes in the overall score and duration of the exams. The board instructed schools to prepare the students on the basis of this new academic evaluation system. It also took decisions to restore 30% of the deleted last year’s syllabus in the new academic session for compensating the last year’s academic loss due to the COVID 19 crisis.
Although the decision of CBSE is still pending with regards to the evaluation and assessment of CBSE Class 10 Board Exams 2021 which has been affected due to global pandemic.
However, the board is expecting to finalize it’s decisions regarding the dates of CBSE class 12 exams by the first week of June.
